<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">One of my personal goals for 2014 is to blog more often. I'm setting the bar pretty low by shooting for once per month. Hope I can keep it up! List-style posts seem to work best for me at the moment. Here's what's happening in my neck of the woods:</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">- I've been asked to speak on a social media panel for the Cleveland chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. I teach a social media workshop for startups at my job, but this is the first time I've ventured beyond the office with such things. I'll be focusing on how and why to use Twitter.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">- I'm trying to set aside a little time to sew on the weekends, even if it's just for 30 minutes. So far I've managed to keep up with the mending, and sew up a pair of new pajama pants out of a vintage sheet.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">- Snooooow. So much. The good news is that a lot of it has melted over the last few days. We are certainly earning our Spring this year.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">- Next Sunday is my bestie's annual Oscar party! I was able to attend for the first time ever last year, and am happy to say that I'm attending again this year. It's a really fun time, and there's lots of food (which I'm so on board with).</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">- There's one more super big thing going on in my life that I'm not ready to talk about, but hopefully all will be revealed soon.</span></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSVYmfSEn2X3aWALSKyTrErtU1DVoxNwRdbV4Sm6Nkuge60Az3hRWkwVEx8u4yUxH7WgOWP7sHOI7BVRBNrb9P7iZfxS1jacfBn676_TDGq7zWDjn7FLMHerQPnouzmCIKrNC0O94hnCdX/s1600/1545567_10151922854857946_1428965092_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="548" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSVYmfSEn2X3aWALSKyTrErtU1DVoxNwRdbV4Sm6Nkuge60Az3hRWkwVEx8u4yUxH7WgOWP7sHOI7BVRBNrb9P7iZfxS1jacfBn676_TDGq7zWDjn7FLMHerQPnouzmCIKrNC0O94hnCdX/s640/1545567_10151922854857946_1428965092_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">My current favorite family photo.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Hiya. Remember me? It's been a while, but I've recently realized that I miss writing in my little corner of the internet! My dad (!!!) has even been bugging me to add a new entry. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">2013 was a mix positives and negatives for me. Ultimately, I think the plusses outweighed the minuses. A couple of the minuses even led to plusses, or ended up being positive things in disguise.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I started a job that I love (<a href="http://bizdom.com/">this</a> is where I work. I still hope to write a more detailed entry on what it is I do!) in February. This job has presented me with new challenges, and has helped me build more confidence in myself. It has its frustrating moments, but what job doesn't? I get to work beside some really wonderful and creative people, and am lucky enough to call many of them my friends. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I turned 32 in May. Kept things very low key, just the way I like my birthdays. Ed gave me a freestanding full-length mirror, something I've wanted for a very long time but would never buy for myself. I use it every day.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">My grandma passed away at the end of May. She was 90 years old. I made it to the hospital in time to be there for her last hours. It's a strange feeling to be with someone as they leave this Earth, but I'm glad that I could see her one last time. I helped choose the clothes she would wear. My grandpa has trouble writing due to a stroke, and asked me to write out the checks to pay for her funeral. I probably seemed very stoic and all business to my family members, but that's just how I cope.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">No big vacations this year, but Ed and I did take a driving trip up to Traverse City and Saugatuck for a few days in June. Both really lovely places, and not too far away! We will definitely go back.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Ed's employer let him go in September. At first I was worried and scared, but knew it would be a good thing. He wasn't super happy in his job. After taking about a week to think it over, he decided to work on a new startup. I'm really excited about it, and it amazes me that I can even <i>get</i> excited about something like that now. I used to feel a lot more stressed out and worried and depressed and just ALL THE EMOTIONS. I've worked really hard to be more calm and flexible in the last couple of years, and it's paid off. My anxiety level is at an all time low. It's pretty awesome. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So, there's an overview. I'm hoping to keep up my writing a little better than I have been. Wishing all of you a great year!</span></div>

Nothing has made it to my sewing table for quite some time now. But! I am hopeful. I'll find my balance soon. The cutting table is better than, well, no table at all, right?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Because I'm always trying to learn more about fit, I picked up this Palmer/Pletsch pattern with built in alteration lines. I've cut out view B in the trusty blue fabric I use for making muslins, but plan to use this if the muslin turns out well:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Just some cotton from my collection, as usual. A closer look at the tiny print:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnGaX47BVsECjVyw2NHAUnozOjS4Pc5JhqyJxIWsWrnz48O-Dc9giLv3CbR1XwisjwmGcsBg6aDsBJlHQ4s8z-GdiXhCHYMcfgpOGE0-aNb0YFIb8DyVBxKsKM1yhky8FdQz1gsRpXowuR/s1600/plmplt2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnGaX47BVsECjVyw2NHAUnozOjS4Pc5JhqyJxIWsWrnz48O-Dc9giLv3CbR1XwisjwmGcsBg6aDsBJlHQ4s8z-GdiXhCHYMcfgpOGE0-aNb0YFIb8DyVBxKsKM1yhky8FdQz1gsRpXowuR/s640/plmplt2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I remember buying this for some other top that never got made, but I don't remember where. Either JoAnn's or a quilt store, most likely.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">One other neat sewing related thing I'm slowly working on; I'm taking Angela Wolf's <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/class/tailoring-ready-to-wear/170">Tailoring Ready to Wear</a> class on Craftsy! I've always wanted to learn more about alterations, but it's a pretty hush-hush subject. I could never really find many books or anything. Tailors and sewists trying to protect their techniques, perhaps? Anyway, the class has been great. I can go at my own pace and watch the videos any time. I've made it through lesson 5. A few things I already knew, but have also picked up some really great techniques that were new to me. The class is on sale right now for $24.99, so if you've ever been curious about altering clothing for yourself or your friends and family, you should definitely check it out!</span></div>

I'm tired and busy and finding it difficult to achieve a good balance. But, I like my job so much! I have a whole post in the works (read: I have snippets and sentence fragments in my head). In the meantime, some photos of recent happenings:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So far, I really like it. A lot. The commute is a little more than I'm used to, but probably not as much as some of my lovely readers have to put up with, so I won't complain about that too much.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Anyway. I'm still working on getting into the groove. Once things calm down I hope to return to blogging on a semi-regular basis.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I finally finished my bestie's Christmas present! Yes, it's over a month late. I have a very patient bestie.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglKuZ9EFTiMfy3Gd8XuojHcGoWIoFldgkAR8yQBg5_os3eY0Mjm-AKuoXYlBC3MfOIvWqDw_cfvCIPB1UzdiF9bzBT7WCXv5-hX9r5mdKAJ4XOBThX5MKD4Vp7w59lKfmlZL8u0A-cdHjy/s1600/Slyterhin1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglKuZ9EFTiMfy3Gd8XuojHcGoWIoFldgkAR8yQBg5_os3eY0Mjm-AKuoXYlBC3MfOIvWqDw_cfvCIPB1UzdiF9bzBT7WCXv5-hX9r5mdKAJ4XOBThX5MKD4Vp7w59lKfmlZL8u0A-cdHjy/s640/Slyterhin1.jpg" width="560" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Modeled by my trusty dressform. The thing about knitting projects is that you can be done knitting but not actually done with the project. There are a lot of other little nit-picky (no pun intended) things to do once the knitting portion is done. I had to weave in all the of the loose ends where I changed yarn colors (and there were a lot, since this is a very stripey scarf), block it, and then add the fringe. The other thing is that I am THE SLOWEST KNITTER EVER.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjacN2F9WIQo7q27QzPFdm3HulYwFRrCUVLEiavM3j0bnbOj_bX-hnnnt8_hmbvV4bc8pRF8CQOLMjG8r4cOqvSjGXTHTZXH7H6Wxz4ael3V8RgJMxXmohvBVkbUISSqcEglRXjYvOpJI_b/s1600/slytherin2a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjacN2F9WIQo7q27QzPFdm3HulYwFRrCUVLEiavM3j0bnbOj_bX-hnnnt8_hmbvV4bc8pRF8CQOLMjG8r4cOqvSjGXTHTZXH7H6Wxz4ael3V8RgJMxXmohvBVkbUISSqcEglRXjYvOpJI_b/s640/slytherin2a.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">A closer look at the fringe. I had originally wanted to make this out of either natural fiber yarn or a natural fiber blend, but just couldn't find anything in the right colors. This baby is 100% acrylic. I wasn't sure if I would be able to block it. Oh, for those not in the know, blocking is what you do to a knitted item to make it the size and shape it should be. It just smooths out the imperfections and makes it look a lot nicer. Less wonky. In this case, the scarf was a tube shape, and I wanted it to be flat and stay flat. Natural fibers are usually wet blocked, meaning that the piece itself is sprayed with or immersed in water and then pinned down flat in the shape you want it to be. Wet blocking doesn't work with acrylic yarn...but steam does! I found several very helpful tutorials on the subject. You're basically melting the yarn juuuuuuust a tiny bit. You can't really even tell (if you do it right). Just pin the piece down on a blocking board or spare bed, and hold your iron over it on the highest steam setting. Just don't touch the scarf with your iron, or you'll cry because you've ruined everything. This scarf came out really well after blocking. It's even a bit softer and less stiff.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Ok. Fibers lesson over.</span>Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07893310601512186192noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3971669281200627737.post-51326646868611164982013-01-22T06:30:00.000-05:002013-01-22T06:30:02.039-05:00The Lizzie Bennet Diaries<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Confession: I love Jane Austen, but have NEVER actually read any of her novels. I've tried to read Emma a few times and just couldn't get into it! I know, I know. I'll give the books another chance someday. For now, I choose to explore her stories through movies and mini series. One of my favorites happens to be Pride and Prejudice. I think I enjoy it so much because it's been adapted in some really fun and different ways (check out <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361411/">Bride and Prejudice</a> and <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1117666/">Lost in Austen</a>). My latest P&P obsession is <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lizzie_Bennet_Diaries">The Lizzie Bennet Diaries.</a></span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The LBD is a modern take on Pride and Prejudice told in vlog form. Oh! For my librarian/young adult literature loving friends, it was co-created by Hank Green, brother of author John Green. I'm not usually super into web series, but this one came highly recommended by my bestie. It does not disappoint! The series was about 75 episodes in when I started watching, and it only took me a few days to catch up (each episode lasts about 3 to 6 minutes). Actually I'm kind of bummed that I'm all caught up, because now I have to wait for new episodes to be posted on Mondays and Thursdays. I so look forward to these videos! The actors do such a wonderful job of capturing the spirit of the characters, especially Laura Spencer (Jane Bennet). I think she may be my favorite Jane ever. Anyway. Enough gushing. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/LizzieBennet/">Go and check it out for yourself</a>, and let me know what you think! </span>Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07893310601512186192noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3971669281200627737.post-60953413491283900562013-01-17T06:30:00.000-05:002013-01-17T06:30:03.570-05:00What's up with Simplicity 2147?<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Ok. Not the worst, but it definitely has a house dress/hospital gown feel for me. Now let's turn it to the side...</span><br />

<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Theeeere it is. Baby got back. This is not a good look for me. I'm not positive, but I think the back pleats just make the whole thing too full. Maybe if I add a belt?</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Looks ok, but I'm not sure if I actually want to wear a cardigan with it all the time just to make it passable. I can't tell if the whole look of the dress is just wrong for me, or if re-making it without the pleats in the back could make it look better. As for this particular dress, I'm thinking of cutting it off and making it a top. What do you think?</span>Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07893310601512186192noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3971669281200627737.post-72852932118055103362013-01-16T06:30:00.000-05:002013-01-16T15:11:54.831-05:00Recent Thrift Finds<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I had the chance to spend a couple of days at my parents' house last week, and spent one of those days thrifting with my mom! We hit 3 Goodwill stores and one other church charity shop. I'm still being pretty choosy about my purchases right now, but did manage to come home with a few items.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This cable knit Talbots cardigan is in pristine condition. I don't think it was ever worn! It's my favorite color (green), the price was right ($3.25), and the fit is great, so I gave it a new home.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">And you KNOW we used a coupon as well. The comforter is so soft and cushy. And huge! It's supposed to be a full/queen size. We have a queen sized bed, and I can't imagine trying to use this on a full. It would drag on the ground for sure. This is the first time we've had matchy-matchy nice looking bedding! We're so grown up.</span></div>

I'm happy to announce that the time has come! It's the same mix of vintage patterns, stationery, etc., and I'm trying to add a few new items a day.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">My current favorite item is:</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">That's right. <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/119904411/vintage-1960s-bejeweled-fork-brooch">It's a brooch. <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Another holiday gift to share with you! We usually give money to Ed's sisters for Christmas, but I wanted to make it a little more fun this year.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><div>
You may have found a printable floating around Pinterest for this one. I wanted to do things the hard way, though, and rubber stamped each individual letter! Actually, I just have a TON of these neat manilla tags and thought they'd be perfect to use for this project.</div>

<div>
A closer look. Admittedly not perfect. I was going for that 'rustic' look. It's the thought that counts, right girls?</div>

I embellished each tag with a couple of rows of red star stitching on my sewing machine(my very favorite stitch!), and added a little pouch made of wrapping paper on the back to hold their money. This would make a really cute gift for a Secret Santa exchange! You might want to pin it for next year :) </div>

We didn't have nearly as far to go this year (a 1 hour drive to Ed's family and 2 hours to mine). A nice treat, although somehow our house still managed to get messy while we were away. How does that even work?? Anyway, now that gift giving is over, I can share something I made for Ed's grandma!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9jwIbs-V616GZ0uPGMXAlDTiIt6DdTg1ebL9mYuTZQWwp1J-XJ_92A3j9-djX3oz2o8XnxOOy70KIq4dDG4mlLcxOR2OShNgOCkAut1r80kaNrcjDc590kiGjhTPU4q1GUmtqNvstXuV1/s1600/needlecase1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="520" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9jwIbs-V616GZ0uPGMXAlDTiIt6DdTg1ebL9mYuTZQWwp1J-XJ_92A3j9-djX3oz2o8XnxOOy70KIq4dDG4mlLcxOR2OShNgOCkAut1r80kaNrcjDc590kiGjhTPU4q1GUmtqNvstXuV1/s640/needlecase1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">A roll for some of her knitting needles (being modeled by some of mine)! During a visit, she mentioned that she was thinking of buying or making one. I promptly went home and scoured the internet for the perfect tutorial, finally settling on <a href="http://sewingschool.org/2011/01/10/tutorial-knitting-needle-roll-up/">this one</a>. I really do love this particular tutorial. The roll couldn't have been easier to put together! I may just make one for myself.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">All rolled up, neat and tidy. This wasn't her main gift, just a little somethin' extra. The fam all pitched in and got grandma an iPad! Watch out, world.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Speaking of watch out world, my parents are finally getting internet access! Welcome to the late 90's, you guys! We passed an old MacBook on to them (it once belonged to my husband, then me), got them a wireless router, and made an appointment with their cable company. Now I just have to show them what to do. Any suggestions for websites, videos, etc. on how to guide a non tech-savvy person through the interwebs?</span></div>

I just wanted to quickly share the owl pillows I sewed up for a certain little lady's birthday.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpg0Fdv0oBGZ0qCOZdENGnaFcYE1dK9CzghiOAfh0rqsFzRWbg0yGpth855_HVK4LbHo5G4igmvw5nBOJIMfQwsLRQHfO-S7Fk8nf950Za9FA5_pqJcAgzn2hHTUDeuYPKhr6SKAtYcdRy/s1600/owlpals.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="562" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpg0Fdv0oBGZ0qCOZdENGnaFcYE1dK9CzghiOAfh0rqsFzRWbg0yGpth855_HVK4LbHo5G4igmvw5nBOJIMfQwsLRQHfO-S7Fk8nf950Za9FA5_pqJcAgzn2hHTUDeuYPKhr6SKAtYcdRy/s640/owlpals.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">They're from a printed fabric panel, and therefore were super quick and easy to whip up. Just cut around the edges, sew, stuff, and stitch them closed. I picked up the panel a while back because I loooove me some owls. The design feels a bit young and girly, so I knew I probably wouldn't be making these for myself. Let's see....who do I know that is young and girly...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Little Miss Emmy! She is my bestie's youngest, and she just turned 3. Her birthday was a few days ago, but I won't be able to give her her new owl pals until after Christmas. Gee, I hope she doesn't read my blog... </span>Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07893310601512186192noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3971669281200627737.post-59061387751188215322012-12-17T11:29:00.003-05:002013-01-06T16:41:34.488-05:00Live Acts of Pinterest: Crock Pot Cinnamon Almonds<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I LOVE those cinnamon-sugar coated almonds that you often see at malls and festivals. Whenever I see them, I try to limit myself to the snack sized portion, because I could probably eat a ton of them if I'm not careful. And, oh, the smell. The smell! So delicious. I kept seeing pins for an at home version on Pinterest and knew I had to test it out. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I perused several versions, all of them pretty similar. I went with <a href="http://detrimentalbeauty.com//?s=almonds&search=Go">this one</a>. I had everything but the almonds on hand. Tip: nuts are usually less expensive during this time of year due to all of the baking people do, and can be kept in the freezer for a good long time. Stock up!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Mixing up the magic. I could probably eat the sugar/brown sugar/cinnamon mixture with a spoon. I am a giant sugar addict. Actually, it would be delish on top of oatmeal or buttered toast.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Into the crock pot they go! Now, keep in mind that although this is a slow cooker recipe, it is definitely not a hands-off type of recipe. You need to stir these every 20 minutes for 3 to 4 hours in order to turn them from this:</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">To this:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWTSTf_MAwhh7XnGDfY2StkvWVCGD2qwkW_hH6GRH2cTQcouWL-tJKQ00YJHHlsr7FtDfoZiSiFCXuixaRVtzpRzDe5n9H15DxmY-HZEgcC_5iVDPH9R8oKus8-9C-YHvWqhrGzdPDKA2B/s1600/almonds5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWTSTf_MAwhh7XnGDfY2StkvWVCGD2qwkW_hH6GRH2cTQcouWL-tJKQ00YJHHlsr7FtDfoZiSiFCXuixaRVtzpRzDe5n9H15DxmY-HZEgcC_5iVDPH9R8oKus8-9C-YHvWqhrGzdPDKA2B/s640/almonds5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This was after the water was added. It kind of dissolves the sugar mixture a little bit and turns it into a scrumptious candy coating.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">It's important to spread these really well out as they cool. I thought I could fit them all onto one sheet pan but ended up using 2. Some of them sort of stuck together, so I just gently tapped them with a rubber spatula to break them apart.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">A close up. So, these didn't turn out *exactly* like the cinnamon almonds from the mall. The coating is a little more crumbly and not as hard and crunchy. Maybe if I cooked them for the full 4 hours instead of 3 it would have been different? That being said, these are quite delicious. I bagged up half of them to give to our neighbors in a holiday treat package, and greedily kept the rest for myself. I've been snacking on them all week, and even snuck a little bag into the theatre with me when we went to see The Hobbit. I also plan on crushing a few of them up to try as a salad topping. I think these will definitely be made again in the near future. </span></div>

It sounded like something I could execute and spared me from coming up with a gift idea on my own. I said yes.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxrmWcRWGiJ1JIvZ2Zhu3NI9zhTJHftsjRBG5Z1F3v6s0gAJ6raRgggYgOGIfGOmzx1Nbc08wIyQDtiAit-2UIGXpJsXUhWCfvpoPoJ-kJK7JKuGts6nx2H1PUIlhds-5xwcjfYrc1BUDy/s1600/slytherin1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="518" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxrmWcRWGiJ1JIvZ2Zhu3NI9zhTJHftsjRBG5Z1F3v6s0gAJ6raRgggYgOGIfGOmzx1Nbc08wIyQDtiAit-2UIGXpJsXUhWCfvpoPoJ-kJK7JKuGts6nx2H1PUIlhds-5xwcjfYrc1BUDy/s640/slytherin1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Ladies and gentlemen, the Slytherin Scarf! I'm using <a href="http://svyet.wordpress.com/2010/10/10/harry-potter-prisoner-of-azkaban-gryffindor-scarf/">this pattern</a> by Rachel Alexandra.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Now, I know very little about Harry Potter. I've seen the movies and like them, but have never read the books. Please don't hate me. I wanted to make sure and get the colors as correct as possible, which involved several photos taken in harsh craft store lighting and a flurry of texts with my bestie. Finally a light bulb went off in my mind, and I sent her to the websites of the yarn I was looking at to see the what the colors really looked like. Success!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">With the colors and pattern chosen, it was time for me to get down to business. I am not what you would call an avid knitter. I know how to knit and enjoy it, but really only get bitten by the knitting bug during the colder months. I am also slow and knit mostly flat things. This pattern is done in the round, which I've only attempted twice before with mixed results. After a few fits and starts (including one instance where the scarf ended up being a whopping FOURTEEN INCHES WIDE), I finally got the hang of it.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">A shot at its current length. I'm working on the 7th set of stripes at the moment. My bestie is a petite flower, so I'll probably end up making it a bit shorter than the one from the original pattern. She gets to try it on this weekend! Hope she likes it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I kid. I've sent her progress photos and she loves it! She's already said that she might not let me take it home and finish it. She's just going to wear it while it's still on the needles.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">In other news, Ed spent a couple of hours helping me spruce up my blog a couple of days ago! I am so lucky to have help, because there's no way I could make it look so nice on my own. I'm really happy with the results! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Ooh, one more thing. I'm currently participating in a link up with Misty over at <a href="http://acrossanddownalittlebit.blogspot.com/">Across and Down a Little Bit</a>. She had the brilliant idea to count up to Christmas by linking up peoples first 25 blog posts ever. It's been so fun to return to those posts on my blog, as well as visit other blogs that are new to me. Definitely go check it out and link yours!</span><br />

I made FOUR recipes (two I'd made previously, two that were new to me) that I found on Pinterest. The one I'm going to share today is for <a href="http://www.kingarthurflour.com/blog/2011/04/06/inside-out-carrot-cake-%E2%80%93-carrot-cake-muffins/">Inside-Out Carrot Cake Muffins</a>.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I decided to cut this recipe in half since we are a household of 2 and don't need a dozen yummy treats hanging around. Want? Sure. Need...probably not.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFdwxZmiz0E-1C4z8R28jk_3ICwqgYF0YiCBO2qnWnNRKTOAf5M3hPw0GJcEPLa30_4Z8zwWQ5lqKdVVkQobf3d2g22RyozGuUoIb9oWhriHrONe4_DmXwVMekpothhXTSN1Jc6A_p49Nu/s1600/crtckmuffins1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFdwxZmiz0E-1C4z8R28jk_3ICwqgYF0YiCBO2qnWnNRKTOAf5M3hPw0GJcEPLa30_4Z8zwWQ5lqKdVVkQobf3d2g22RyozGuUoIb9oWhriHrONe4_DmXwVMekpothhXTSN1Jc6A_p49Nu/s640/crtckmuffins1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The batter. This recipe was simple to whip up. I didn't even need to haul out the mixer! Even better, all of the ingredients where items that I normally keep on hand. There were a couple of optional ingredients (Fiori di Sicilia and coarse white sparkling sugar) that I didn't use.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiBVTshqiCCBCVvBBGKVrnZ2iz7qylgcoct3Oh5tUTTUs6Pn9lM6jc0PH23z3EAIRksdhaXW9HXQRxA2S7JrwIXJbkjroXz_MV_MBS6fJ5e2yWOLqg8y6Yqbi7DWZJlSnkZ1JtRr8oCInj/s1600/crtckmuffins2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="444" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiBVTshqiCCBCVvBBGKVrnZ2iz7qylgcoct3Oh5tUTTUs6Pn9lM6jc0PH23z3EAIRksdhaXW9HXQRxA2S7JrwIXJbkjroXz_MV_MBS6fJ5e2yWOLqg8y6Yqbi7DWZJlSnkZ1JtRr8oCInj/s640/crtckmuffins2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Fresh from the oven! I ended up with 7 muffins and had some filling leftover as well. I popped it into the fridge. It'll probably be delicious on graham crackers or gingersnaps! As you can see, the filling sort of oozed out of the top of the muffins for me. I don't think my tins were as deep as the ones <a href="http://www.kingarthurflour.com/blog/author/pjhamel/">the recipe creator</a> used.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Ready to sample. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiILpj4rsV1yt-7fMcu25Rm8X7BiqTM5z_CEJ0C-3AN2yHWGdzj5uHQN0uxUmg7KEYjpIoG7S5sKkqm5oYda31rfIKXYPizUxByv7TGiMd3YN8_n6s9VJ_y6HEUjH78q-hwVvx7hQCowm-c/s1600/crtckmuffins5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiILpj4rsV1yt-7fMcu25Rm8X7BiqTM5z_CEJ0C-3AN2yHWGdzj5uHQN0uxUmg7KEYjpIoG7S5sKkqm5oYda31rfIKXYPizUxByv7TGiMd3YN8_n6s9VJ_y6HEUjH78q-hwVvx7hQCowm-c/s640/crtckmuffins5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"> I couldn't resist cutting one open to see what the inside was like. It looks like I might have put a little too much batter on the bottom, causing the filling to ooze out the top. Something to remember for next time.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">And there will definitely be a next time. These are really yummy. Not as super duper sweet as carrot cake. I like that I can make a small amount and that they don't have to be frosted like cupcakes. Ed hasn't gotten the chance to try one. He'd better hurry, otherwise I might eat all of them myself... </span>Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07893310601512186192noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3971669281200627737.post-24127146247770734412012-11-28T06:00:00.000-05:002013-01-22T10:24:54.108-05:00Round Tablecloth Tutorial<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhLj3rgcFOUsyv5fcZe6NvHe0Rv-F6E_4HuOZppwNAuC2Cf_YfxlYa0ZI0ddACeeqAJrh1-EAbmuISjhboe3bH8xhrlmVK97vaDdGuj4Tltt7zyr-k4plPQpr8aFvugNRUe-HL8McgI27q/s1600/tblclth34.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhLj3rgcFOUsyv5fcZe6NvHe0Rv-F6E_4HuOZppwNAuC2Cf_YfxlYa0ZI0ddACeeqAJrh1-EAbmuISjhboe3bH8xhrlmVK97vaDdGuj4Tltt7zyr-k4plPQpr8aFvugNRUe-HL8McgI27q/s640/tblclth34.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">As promised, a tutorial for the tablecloth featured in <a href="http://sewsewetc.blogspot.com/2012/11/a-retro-tablecloth-for-retro-table.html">this post</a>! Most cloths you'll find in stores are just one big circle of fabric. This one is slightly different, as the drop (the part that hangs off of the side of the table) is cut out and then stitched to the top. This makes for a much more fitted look. I think it keeps the tablecloth in place a little bit better, too. My table is about 40" across, but this project is customizable to different sizes, whether it be for a dining table, side table, etc. My nightstand is round, and I'm itching to make a smaller version to cover it!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">You will need:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><b>medium weight fabric</b> (the amount depends on how big your table is. I got by with 2.5 yards of 45" wide fabric)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><b>coordinating thread</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><b>2 packages of single fold bias tape</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><b>a length of string or yarn</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><b>a pencil</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">First you need to measure how wide your table is and then add 1". My table is 40" across, so the measurement I will need for the next step is 41".</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Take the measurement you came up with and cut a square from your fabric. My square is 41" by 41".</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBZCvJVAA0-t9uFZ20-ucZQO082pTbhphzj2JLkU_K4rkTnR46yWOtz7qwiSOf5Ay4Yt7oV_CgQKNfxuiriTve25IPcXQXEB3sXkyjr0qTc3TOQIjlWV9SyhzisSySyArQaa-Vd9qZHVs2/s1600/tblclth1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBZCvJVAA0-t9uFZ20-ucZQO082pTbhphzj2JLkU_K4rkTnR46yWOtz7qwiSOf5Ay4Yt7oV_CgQKNfxuiriTve25IPcXQXEB3sXkyjr0qTc3TOQIjlWV9SyhzisSySyArQaa-Vd9qZHVs2/s640/tblclth1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Next, you need to fold your square into quarters, right sides of fabric together, like so:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4oNZmcW1_iv__QQQEc-CGOymCZc3Z1pzLP0tnzOu7XsxhsfXTTWOWvq2AN1-PMaPEKmiGUT5sVYsWgiv8s3Pfn70zON_12m9ILdkYL990c5owQC_nwUpmzbq5Az-genoUrY6o2X08wDSr/s1600/tblclth2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4oNZmcW1_iv__QQQEc-CGOymCZc3Z1pzLP0tnzOu7XsxhsfXTTWOWvq2AN1-PMaPEKmiGUT5sVYsWgiv8s3Pfn70zON_12m9ILdkYL990c5owQC_nwUpmzbq5Az-genoUrY6o2X08wDSr/s640/tblclth2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Use your pencil and string to make a compass. Just tie the string to the pencil. That's it!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm2HxOqWgcWvQXO7im1EBeR9VoynCF83vbLswc65RHtUVYI9q0RSY68cfbaiUoQKHIWVfK95RPLHf4HtYFkN0O4Q_WqmU8VsCFgKygPdPTcNxMxNEAhzfBOqMe6ttJbTzmxPLZSyT1TGx3/s1600/tblclth3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="544" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm2HxOqWgcWvQXO7im1EBeR9VoynCF83vbLswc65RHtUVYI9q0RSY68cfbaiUoQKHIWVfK95RPLHf4HtYFkN0O4Q_WqmU8VsCFgKygPdPTcNxMxNEAhzfBOqMe6ttJbTzmxPLZSyT1TGx3/s640/tblclth3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">You can use a chalk pencil if regular pencil marks won't show up on your fabric.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The string needs to be at least as long as one side of your folded fabric square, plus a little extra to hold onto. Hold the pencil with one hand in the upper left corner of the fabric, and hold the string taut in the lower left corner, like this:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhu_NSHDTmm-nGdRBhIRe0LtntSnIh9QfQj0GEAFjtAw7GtJourtWTYUD6Z6XZRT3dWV7bmhee5qrW-6tBS1758VawGmKeTNhdRFEccOI_BdV29nZUEqfA_EABVYPg3z7MaJaUzis67uMx/s1600/tblclth4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="510" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhu_NSHDTmm-nGdRBhIRe0LtntSnIh9QfQj0GEAFjtAw7GtJourtWTYUD6Z6XZRT3dWV7bmhee5qrW-6tBS1758VawGmKeTNhdRFEccOI_BdV29nZUEqfA_EABVYPg3z7MaJaUzis67uMx/s640/tblclth4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br />Now, while continuing to hold tightly onto the string in the lower left corner, begin moving your pencil and drawing an arch toward the opposite (lower right) corner.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUibjYeYYudQYIcGQW9uK3Ta2ns2bFL1tS8H2BLPMXyiCqkCoYg7JNIQSkiNTFoDYqPudDxAtWTwq1zqVYUmELXFmo8dgTyH02HwnTBJawLKkv1ScUpq8xQHoj44qiG7gzOKew_iAzpukX/s1600/tblclth5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="474" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUibjYeYYudQYIcGQW9uK3Ta2ns2bFL1tS8H2BLPMXyiCqkCoYg7JNIQSkiNTFoDYqPudDxAtWTwq1zqVYUmELXFmo8dgTyH02HwnTBJawLKkv1ScUpq8xQHoj44qiG7gzOKew_iAzpukX/s640/tblclth5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Almost done!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir-u2trwKlMlRBPLXBRkXF2cYWhveVwkOL9iqkmBjrsDG8vSIbyTW4OY7d-o2NZhNqYizUXtWiCHBJ6tk8p3NQlLoM1t-LlPT5zmxTPfc_NbEYdAAZB1Ipa6rvvc3BvbSYeUTUW-J2LTsK/s1600/tblclth7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir-u2trwKlMlRBPLXBRkXF2cYWhveVwkOL9iqkmBjrsDG8vSIbyTW4OY7d-o2NZhNqYizUXtWiCHBJ6tk8p3NQlLoM1t-LlPT5zmxTPfc_NbEYdAAZB1Ipa6rvvc3BvbSYeUTUW-J2LTsK/s640/tblclth7.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Done! I wish I had thought to use a pencil that would leave dark enough marks to show up in my photos. Basically, you should have drawn a perfect arch from the upper left hand corner down to the lower right hand corner. I hope you get the idea. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Cut along the arch you just drew. Once you're done cutting, unfold your fabric, and you should have this:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtwKRLdEbQXILWua9Y5sZ1sDiGNhw_bQuYY7VdTmBTAh5cdywAI_ArRAb10HeX4n3v6_ocixu4pOnsySZNiI043bN_aDhA4Cp2GvSJHLSX6rCXzRar2AsjHSXNAaZSoy8bU-x5tiYwoR_i/s1600/tblclth8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtwKRLdEbQXILWua9Y5sZ1sDiGNhw_bQuYY7VdTmBTAh5cdywAI_ArRAb10HeX4n3v6_ocixu4pOnsySZNiI043bN_aDhA4Cp2GvSJHLSX6rCXzRar2AsjHSXNAaZSoy8bU-x5tiYwoR_i/s640/tblclth8.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">A circle! It's like magic.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Now it's time to work on the drop. I like the edge of a tablecloth to *almost* touch the seat of the chairs. Once you've decided how long of a drop you'd like, you can cut strips from your fabric.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqvfnd3Zz6IJs1Y75Tt6AZtAe3kPE9WKzuK8yCfoceEGUgBYPTzBLqkV8j2xaSMJ8tGwnhc3pdMniEuOMSdRkHvEVC-UwFj87OkT2TyyQpcWqYdKXecPAaqmrbmfc5x2QvO6JNhI1C78gf/s1600/tblclth9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="390" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqvfnd3Zz6IJs1Y75Tt6AZtAe3kPE9WKzuK8yCfoceEGUgBYPTzBLqkV8j2xaSMJ8tGwnhc3pdMniEuOMSdRkHvEVC-UwFj87OkT2TyyQpcWqYdKXecPAaqmrbmfc5x2QvO6JNhI1C78gf/s640/tblclth9.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I made my strips 10" high and 45" wide. I managed to get by with 3. You may need more or less depending on the size of your table.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Now you're going to make one long strip from all of the shorter ones. Take two of the strips, place them right sides together, and stitch the 10" ends together using a 1/4" seam allowance. Repeat with the 3rd strip. You should end up with this: </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIhQphRQUTr3CiIWOL56DnDJ8X0sVcIpvHpSb77-wkxAAuiT3elFqZfQpuKt500MXG3qJ3JyQyYpp8wr65ujgOO1uTf7CVKYUscJiaHMv1-u6c3zoIloqiIsMz_aXrJ73-asfRLjYk9TLu/s1600/tblclth10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="336" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIhQphRQUTr3CiIWOL56DnDJ8X0sVcIpvHpSb77-wkxAAuiT3elFqZfQpuKt500MXG3qJ3JyQyYpp8wr65ujgOO1uTf7CVKYUscJiaHMv1-u6c3zoIloqiIsMz_aXrJ73-asfRLjYk9TLu/s640/tblclth10.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">A little hard to photograph, but that should give you an idea. 1 long strip.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">It's time to pin the long strip to the circle. Take your time, and use as many pins as you like. I won't judge. Attaching a straight piece of fabric to a circular piece can sometimes be a pain in the rear. Don't forget, right sides of the fabric together. 1/4" seam allowance. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">When you are ready to sew, don't start stitching at the very end of the strip.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMtxHO88kWwnbuXEkbVvgNWQ3ty51xnRy-XhdX9lpO4tkKeNlFHThyphenhyphenY1Zm8iNn92Gq6rzzioFCfw47it7MMiu7C3n_M6NvwVwKnhnLnM56DlfHkDRuCs6u5FKNwoZjYFdTbMjmZkZPeOOk/s1600/tblclth11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMtxHO88kWwnbuXEkbVvgNWQ3ty51xnRy-XhdX9lpO4tkKeNlFHThyphenhyphenY1Zm8iNn92Gq6rzzioFCfw47it7MMiu7C3n_M6NvwVwKnhnLnM56DlfHkDRuCs6u5FKNwoZjYFdTbMjmZkZPeOOk/s640/tblclth11.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">See what I mean? I started to stitch the strip to the circle about 1.5" from the end of the strip. Here's another view:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgelTKzWg8YBjm_gggJXPlL-CxgH0feafOSCZg9awK9tvZPcfl7-bkfx0bw9RML0U3rYd72lC8oZda6je3rN-oF-vTJJhiQYmF6WbFq6RMduTPdY95z4POE9mFxf4BkAq7PbpPH_SKMjD5k/s1600/tblclth12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgelTKzWg8YBjm_gggJXPlL-CxgH0feafOSCZg9awK9tvZPcfl7-bkfx0bw9RML0U3rYd72lC8oZda6je3rN-oF-vTJJhiQYmF6WbFq6RMduTPdY95z4POE9mFxf4BkAq7PbpPH_SKMjD5k/s640/tblclth12.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Do the same when you reach the other end of the strip; stop your stitching before you reach the end of the strip. This gives you a little bit of room to work with when you need to join the 2 ends. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Figure out whether or not you have excess fabric on the short (10") ends of your drop. If you do, trim it away and stitch the ends together. If you end up with a gap, cut out another piece of fabric (10" by however much you need to fill the space) and use it to fill the gap. Once you have the ends of the trip stitched together, finish stitching the drop to the circle.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">When you're done, it should look like this:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Y80DR5PD9glePBqRyzet5rHf1nrngWte4v3E4nTPbEFZ4an46gUkY2GvyUFbmlA4-k6wwTb9B-stR_lTkkdZgjwOnDaU9rz3bFsiTZsmjoaoHBwmryEj04-FyOaWdCn8jPvhqOrKUpiw/s1600/tblclth13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Y80DR5PD9glePBqRyzet5rHf1nrngWte4v3E4nTPbEFZ4an46gUkY2GvyUFbmlA4-k6wwTb9B-stR_lTkkdZgjwOnDaU9rz3bFsiTZsmjoaoHBwmryEj04-FyOaWdCn8jPvhqOrKUpiw/s640/tblclth13.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">It's almost a tablecloth! The rest of the work is just finishing to make it look nice.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">If you're worried about fraying at the seam where the drop is stitched to the circle/top, go ahead and finish it with a narrow zig-zag stitch. I am always worried about fraying, so I did just that.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYT3pSdebeWZEmQK9HtKBflQrScVzSeTKeJCF0p0Po7J8FhDcw0p9R5OMqDD2zaDBlsCvKGPzXSg3qhnDtOvYfzL1sep4dJLgJcfT5HBPI4nHm0x8daECWDGrUme8GT6kXOdKE-lYwpyYA/s1600/tblclth14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYT3pSdebeWZEmQK9HtKBflQrScVzSeTKeJCF0p0Po7J8FhDcw0p9R5OMqDD2zaDBlsCvKGPzXSg3qhnDtOvYfzL1sep4dJLgJcfT5HBPI4nHm0x8daECWDGrUme8GT6kXOdKE-lYwpyYA/s640/tblclth14.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">No need to press the seam open. Just zig zag the two halves together. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Time to press. I've probably mentioned this before, but pressing is a big part of sewing. It makes for a much nicer result. Make friends with your iron!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Having a tailor's ham really helped with this step. It's absolutely necessary, but definitely makes this easier. I placed my ham toward the narrow end of my ironing board, like so:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXP3FIHrQ2WoVcjDcWLtOBEg-4yoT8ZwvsPmDviUYXF1AVarXbp2Ly4gUvGU6cROo_zFrfDGls3J0HsVS7MtvbtgRTrmvTuowVu26GP_tdOoSZeS8NK3wFRKXNwevttKuy9x9yf-Yk38zF/s1600/tblclth15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXP3FIHrQ2WoVcjDcWLtOBEg-4yoT8ZwvsPmDviUYXF1AVarXbp2Ly4gUvGU6cROo_zFrfDGls3J0HsVS7MtvbtgRTrmvTuowVu26GP_tdOoSZeS8NK3wFRKXNwevttKuy9x9yf-Yk38zF/s640/tblclth15.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">right side down, drape the tablecloth over the ironing board, placing the seam on the tailor's ham.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Press the seam toward the drop.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRLJJnhDmlUlQUVDjDjtleDaEfe8ApCl4gdPLF3sheudIE18wsXJwYctjjfoKhk9_XI9W8dVQDd8oI4uVGRdZZ7dXRNnJVIw-Gpu-1HsBMvyfjmvYXthvGg8OaQuDPpJ00TL60qBHQHgKj/s1600/tblclth17.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRLJJnhDmlUlQUVDjDjtleDaEfe8ApCl4gdPLF3sheudIE18wsXJwYctjjfoKhk9_XI9W8dVQDd8oI4uVGRdZZ7dXRNnJVIw-Gpu-1HsBMvyfjmvYXthvGg8OaQuDPpJ00TL60qBHQHgKj/s640/tblclth17.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">FYI, it's very difficult to hold a camera in your left hand and try to snap a photo while you're holding an iron in your right hand.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">When you're done pressing, your tablecloth should look like this:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVBeIPqJ8H73or1rLfHEfbMeU6nG9gx7flvGQbfUG66N9h8TIoqWEJ2klpVVk34gbghj0Zglc96XzSwwf9ZOWfpTrIMQKQgb-mTUaopFSlWV-a4CYK8fgRvMQ4TTw2wmggPEb5UA8AqgI0/s1600/tblclth18.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVBeIPqJ8H73or1rLfHEfbMeU6nG9gx7flvGQbfUG66N9h8TIoqWEJ2klpVVk34gbghj0Zglc96XzSwwf9ZOWfpTrIMQKQgb-mTUaopFSlWV-a4CYK8fgRvMQ4TTw2wmggPEb5UA8AqgI0/s640/tblclth18.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Now flip your tablecloth over (wrong side of the fabric down), and press the seam again. I told you to make friends with your iron! Pressing the seam for a second time on the outside will make your tablecloth look so much nicer when it's done.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRA4-LZupn79jOTuahl5Vk33QcMxu2vxsq13KnTR4cLioztSMOc5XJKvm8FWhlImspdpNWfLvwRbdo7FBSeE_UHTgPgDXSkgtKJiK7F9QUXKP_N5tWnHxr0KPj5J9oiolOKYiE11APAuei/s1600/tblclth19.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRA4-LZupn79jOTuahl5Vk33QcMxu2vxsq13KnTR4cLioztSMOc5XJKvm8FWhlImspdpNWfLvwRbdo7FBSeE_UHTgPgDXSkgtKJiK7F9QUXKP_N5tWnHxr0KPj5J9oiolOKYiE11APAuei/s640/tblclth19.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Now that the pressing is done, you can finish the raw edge of the drop. You couldjust turn up the edge of the fabric and create a narrow hem, but I like this simple bias tape finish. Very easy to do, and results in a nice, clean edge!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I used a scrap of fabric and green bias tape for these photos, because the green showed up a little better. I used black bias tape for my actual tablecloth.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Lay your bias tape face down on the ironing board. Press one side open and leave the other side folded.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">With the right side of the bias tape against the right side of your fabric, line up the raw edge of your bias tape with the raw edge of your fabric (where you'd normally press up the fabric and hem) and pin.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">You should end up with this on the right side of your fabric:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWlIRuSP9cWmptr4XtaZF-uQ5TUHVwOw5RAuBrS8GmuCwanwsLoQrcL5Gejw8wkcfL3MIPRmDloYKFOArEV_x0lTtaO-KVNygJTWKMVyi8wnq5sl2TxZAZk5yWpf0b-o3USsr7vb74piJt/s1600/tblclth25.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWlIRuSP9cWmptr4XtaZF-uQ5TUHVwOw5RAuBrS8GmuCwanwsLoQrcL5Gejw8wkcfL3MIPRmDloYKFOArEV_x0lTtaO-KVNygJTWKMVyi8wnq5sl2TxZAZk5yWpf0b-o3USsr7vb74piJt/s640/tblclth25.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">and it should look like this on the wrong side of your fabric:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3WQWPnh0XvslI8gkpuRtNZiejXAmheMqBusTjFcRK4ju_nCWgktOAywj_WuzpGJLuEDlCp3NhGOn7CX8BJxe_Id5cYbegs5HQiHEbOGg1pmlYlR0SaibfvOklCgxpz9BhQOqfZ1nKL-Rv/s1600/tblclth26.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="444" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3WQWPnh0XvslI8gkpuRtNZiejXAmheMqBusTjFcRK4ju_nCWgktOAywj_WuzpGJLuEDlCp3NhGOn7CX8BJxe_Id5cYbegs5HQiHEbOGg1pmlYlR0SaibfvOklCgxpz9BhQOqfZ1nKL-Rv/s640/tblclth26.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Now you're going to press the bias tape to the wrong side of your fabric, over the seam you stitched and trimmed earlier.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">It should look like this on the inside when you're done pressing.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaOH8lpx7aD0Kw4sv9I5vduMULbSIWxlwQM3mFbeS2q1J1DnKzDhTYW0dXUibkF48SG3RrPuF4gJnlnD9FQ15s3bTs3LZ7P4HDYcpv2loWDC2AxCxXEe3WE0rh1cZuUVon4HkYXyobEGC7/s1600/tblclth28.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="370" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaOH8lpx7aD0Kw4sv9I5vduMULbSIWxlwQM3mFbeS2q1J1DnKzDhTYW0dXUibkF48SG3RrPuF4gJnlnD9FQ15s3bTs3LZ7P4HDYcpv2loWDC2AxCxXEe3WE0rh1cZuUVon4HkYXyobEGC7/s640/tblclth28.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">There should be a nice, clean edge on the outside with just the tiniest bit of bias tape showing.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-2BrQmQONm8yL7afLZsfDVTb22oQGyATe-A6MrLi9WMeLlKUx4hzqkMTZ56rswxHjyrG1go2UAWjVswZDgFL4Qb2pLfTWCBvzqpVc-h6OaOUfN1DR1irEJixzlFyYpRwx8wL3ctiSSjAu/s1600/tblclth30.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="380" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-2BrQmQONm8yL7afLZsfDVTb22oQGyATe-A6MrLi9WMeLlKUx4hzqkMTZ56rswxHjyrG1go2UAWjVswZDgFL4Qb2pLfTWCBvzqpVc-h6OaOUfN1DR1irEJixzlFyYpRwx8wL3ctiSSjAu/s640/tblclth30.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Time to stitch the bias tape into place! I'm going to show you a method called stitch in the ditch. That just means you stitch in the area where the fabric and bias tape meet: </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0Q8wwmlLMShR_072OjOgrXlMr1vKXVwo7ArCwRBVomSXRGUmtUiKo97Jra3sPMjA5JSVUV1dN1d4Ujxpe0gZai_Bk8uBZH-RLsdgCMPaSddBhC7aRmpw6cBu8Wdqef-vRN-6ZIVtgvQ45/s1600/tblclth31.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0Q8wwmlLMShR_072OjOgrXlMr1vKXVwo7ArCwRBVomSXRGUmtUiKo97Jra3sPMjA5JSVUV1dN1d4Ujxpe0gZai_Bk8uBZH-RLsdgCMPaSddBhC7aRmpw6cBu8Wdqef-vRN-6ZIVtgvQ45/s640/tblclth31.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">See? Stitch in the ditch on the outside of your fabric, and the stitches will catch the rest of the bias tape on the other side, like this:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXLG-1fH39kLVbh1TNibrrxT8uXfITE0bOsExMIDfRvsfJRHT392_cKty9h3qNTz5RQ-4k6IQNz5y4u68pQc3RgMVHoxBLbhUe6b3bFEbRRZziI4tRjMyl0QcJC9cMtHLx-bft7r5rOtcy/s1600/tblclth32.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="436" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXLG-1fH39kLVbh1TNibrrxT8uXfITE0bOsExMIDfRvsfJRHT392_cKty9h3qNTz5RQ-4k6IQNz5y4u68pQc3RgMVHoxBLbhUe6b3bFEbRRZziI4tRjMyl0QcJC9cMtHLx-bft7r5rOtcy/s640/tblclth32.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Here's what your finished edge should look like. You can see a little spot where I got out of line on my stitching.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br />That's it! You now have a gorgeous cloth to cover your table. Make a new one for each holiday!</span><br />

The table looks great on its own, but I am very afraid of the top getting scratched. Fast forward a year and I've finally gotten around to doing something about it! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgncFC2v_CAUhncEbkdcaTSB5kGonMy4Ba2aWa-xseKob6-EEs5-I2bkM5fI1yjYbfd77AJs4wco43TInd6eEYPoQdqgJsf4YovPQrrYaqpZ0LPqK-WU7OqqQFyIX92HV0sxWGO9tTeU9Fc/s1600/retrotablecloth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgncFC2v_CAUhncEbkdcaTSB5kGonMy4Ba2aWa-xseKob6-EEs5-I2bkM5fI1yjYbfd77AJs4wco43TInd6eEYPoQdqgJsf4YovPQrrYaqpZ0LPqK-WU7OqqQFyIX92HV0sxWGO9tTeU9Fc/s640/retrotablecloth.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The cloth kind of looks like it came from a very groovy children's birthday party that took place in the early 70s. I love it. The fabric has been sitting in my stash for who know how long. I knew it needed to be made into something, it just took a while for me to figure out that it needed to be a tablecloth. I'm working up a tutorial and hope to have it posted after the Thanksgiving madness has subsided. We're hosting this year!</span>Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07893310601512186192noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3971669281200627737.post-76008722438059854172012-11-05T17:04:00.000-05:002012-11-05T17:04:18.324-05:00Thrift Finds<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Hiya everyone!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">After we moved, I decided to make it a goal NOT to fill this house up. We have extra space, but that doesn't mean I need to go bonkers. Still, I couldn't help but pick up a couple of things when I went to check out the thrift stores here. Both are useful, honest!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnIkxMfu-G6X2VKrVr9wxnaTu0_E-ybk_OJSyWtU7NZj01pS9vGxSutKjM1nNcP538-BJLZnGofOFiLrPM2_7RCd7AZTcHo-BITurdTjxrUlV2vJ5bf1mePsY2IvlmM8Sivl3vPE5r-5D3/s1600/thrift1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="490" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnIkxMfu-G6X2VKrVr9wxnaTu0_E-ybk_OJSyWtU7NZj01pS9vGxSutKjM1nNcP538-BJLZnGofOFiLrPM2_7RCd7AZTcHo-BITurdTjxrUlV2vJ5bf1mePsY2IvlmM8Sivl3vPE5r-5D3/s640/thrift1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> I found this vintage nightstand/end table at a local consignment shop. A steal at $20! We were looking for a small table to put just inside the front entrance of the house, but everything I found was too big, too tall, or not really our style. This works perfectly.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL5YW_rAr52TEkN32sGC3ohaD2k5TSjBxewyjUfDLJbYMXjlijxN4L-pPf4o64nI13mlHzonAIwFhQneCijSz0orAfgFRl2-XdkL4HtDVIJ1XmBjaZJCS41oTWi2fSnZMdw9GKdUN66N3m/s1600/thrift2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="520" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL5YW_rAr52TEkN32sGC3ohaD2k5TSjBxewyjUfDLJbYMXjlijxN4L-pPf4o64nI13mlHzonAIwFhQneCijSz0orAfgFRl2-XdkL4HtDVIJ1XmBjaZJCS41oTWi2fSnZMdw9GKdUN66N3m/s640/thrift2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">It's so nice to have a place to put down our keys, mail, whatever happens to be in our hands when we enter the house and need to take our coats off. Like my raven in a witch hat? It's too cute to put away after Halloween. I'll probably keep it out until Thanksgiving.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ2TaVnTr65vokfvfzyqDTdsUGC6ZrQUpXPjLHAzuMA9Ctom1-sJMcqPkExPpATalv2BQMwjQImTnLtqR9l-yBXhmBEdaIhE2M62iHREewbtYtJBLDE1gkS7xHw-6NwvcTztpljXVhr90a/s1600/thrift3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="482" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ2TaVnTr65vokfvfzyqDTdsUGC6ZrQUpXPjLHAzuMA9Ctom1-sJMcqPkExPpATalv2BQMwjQImTnLtqR9l-yBXhmBEdaIhE2M62iHREewbtYtJBLDE1gkS7xHw-6NwvcTztpljXVhr90a/s640/thrift3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Second is this retro stoneware crock I picked up for $3. This one was a tougher sell. I really liked it, but wasn't sure what it could be used for. I carried it around the store with me and thought about it (does anyone else do that?). Finally, I decided that it was coming home with me.</span> <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Sure enough, I came up with a use. What could be inside?</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> Treats for Dottie!</span> <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Normally her treats get shoved into a pantry or the laundry room. This is a much cuter way to have her treats close at hand. Now, when she hears the lid come off, she comes running (and yes, I had to give her a treat after I took this photo. We can't have a pouty dog)!</span>Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07893310601512186192noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3971669281200627737.post-52111275005293272352012-11-02T16:00:00.000-04:002012-11-02T16:00:38.774-04:00Bookshelf Update<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Look what my sweet husband showed up with a couple of days after last my post:</span><br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoecwunmDNa9Uh2YO_BGknHKXe197RsXNDbOLlWSg1Ub9bXeCR6SIW89VFhi3C6rd8Vy2N-O-oESk3b-C5kSnsiUuiRmQJJDOqLnU-oIo9Uml-LnywhUt65M4qvC3XeE-B-M8tutP4enpY/s1600/bookshelves1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="506" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoecwunmDNa9Uh2YO_BGknHKXe197RsXNDbOLlWSg1Ub9bXeCR6SIW89VFhi3C6rd8Vy2N-O-oESk3b-C5kSnsiUuiRmQJJDOqLnU-oIo9Uml-LnywhUt65M4qvC3XeE-B-M8tutP4enpY/s640/bookshelves1.jpg" width="640" /></a> <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/series/09064/">Expidit</a> shelves from Ikea! 2 of the 4 shelf squares (shown here), AND one of the 8 shelf units (which we ended up using for DVDs).</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">He was in Pittsburgh for work, but I never expected him to surprise me with these. We both drive pretty smallish to average sized cars. I didn't think it was possible to fit all of the shelves in his, but he managed. The 8 shelf Expidit required him to remove the headrest on the drivers side and recline the seat all the way back. The things he does for me :) </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I'm pretty happy with them so far. Most of my books fit into one of the shelves, and I'm using the other for craft/stationery related storage. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Rather than shove some of larger my sewing tools into the closet, I decided to leave them out on display. I use them enough, and they're pretty to look at, so why hide them away? The sewing box used to belong to my mom, the tailor's ham, sleeve roll, and hem marker were thrifted somewhere along they way, the owl was a handmade gift from my friend <a href="http://littlehouseonthefrozenprairie.blogspot.com/">Katie</a>, and I picked up the print at this year's Renegade Craft Fair</span> <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">from <a href="http://www.rhymeswithtwee.com/">Rhymes with Twee</a>. Things are really coming together in this space. The final piece is a small bed for guests. I have the frame set up, the bedding is ready to go, and the mattress is on its way. Who's coming to visit? </span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I showed you a few photos of some of the nicer looking parts of our new home. Now it's time for one that doesn't look so nice:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5nsDMEr-9pl0qkbIjxMwuiAo9TUJ1a-fFZXiqti4_ZJwvlj25JMCfOWS8CZ1l5KZfYjBYudCgepQbDEH7M0omddfg8xrenduEO37BFxUcwRZrWJh9CLwtJnqrXHgMOhzQFQJ3iAiHCPSK/s1600/sewingrm1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5nsDMEr-9pl0qkbIjxMwuiAo9TUJ1a-fFZXiqti4_ZJwvlj25JMCfOWS8CZ1l5KZfYjBYudCgepQbDEH7M0omddfg8xrenduEO37BFxUcwRZrWJh9CLwtJnqrXHgMOhzQFQJ3iAiHCPSK/s640/sewingrm1.jpg" width="516" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> Clutter-rific. My problem at the moment is lack of shelves to put things on. Want to see where my sewing books live right now?</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWYUJrnkjTac5z7vroxoe5mILkD1R06kGiF3xRwIjQ1KaAZNLM4jEmG7un2hQjVehHqK_tVw0k1zrgqNQwtEn3T50XL620acHzHKfuWHBnBxLlr_-ROU4KRMJU0gw0yL8XTcOuSt2y0hO7/s1600/sewingrm2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWYUJrnkjTac5z7vroxoe5mILkD1R06kGiF3xRwIjQ1KaAZNLM4jEmG7un2hQjVehHqK_tVw0k1zrgqNQwtEn3T50XL620acHzHKfuWHBnBxLlr_-ROU4KRMJU0gw0yL8XTcOuSt2y0hO7/s640/sewingrm2.jpg" width="592" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> I had all of them mixed in with our regular books on our <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80208652/#/60208648">giant bookshelf</a> previously, but didn't really like that so much. I'd rather have them close at hand.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I really feel that if my books had a home, it would get the ball rolling for me to figure out where everything else goes. My original idea was to get another <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10103088/">Expedit shelf</a> from Ikea and use it sideways. I just really liked the idea of a long, low shelf. Preferably in white. But, because we no longer live in Chicago, the closest Ikea is in Pittsburgh. One of the trade-offs of moving to Ohio! I looked into having one shipped, but shipping would cost much more than the shelf itself.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Plan B was 2 short shelves that I could put side by side. I'm not really having much luck with that one either. Everything is either very flimsy or way too expensive. So! The current plan C is to chuck out the idea of a long, low shelf, and go with a regular tall one. I know we're going to move again eventually, and I know what a pain it can be to move big bookshelves. For this reason, I'm thinking of a folding bookcase, like <a href="http://www.target.com/p/mission-folding-bookcase-natural/-/A-608713">this one from Target</a>, or <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Winsome-Wood-Folding-4-Tier-Shelf/dp/B0012AL2A4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1351195512&sr=8-3&keywords=folding+bookcase">this one from Amazon</a>. Do any of my readers have experience with this type of shelving? Any opinion you can offer would be greatly appreciated!<a href="http://www.target.com/p/mission-folding-bookcase-natural/-/A-608713"><br /></a></span><br />
